How we got here

1987

Born in Soweto

Loudest baby on the ward, according to her mother. Nothing has changed.

2005

Wits, and the friends who are still here

Half the people reading this met her in a lecture hall or a res kitchen.

2016

The move to Melville

A flat above a bookshop, and a table that somehow always seats eight more.

2027

Forty, and dancing

Come and help her celebrate the next forty properly.

Good to know

A few details

The things guests usually ask. Anything else, just reply to your invitation and ask.

What should I wear?

Smart and comfortable. There is dancing later, so choose shoes you can stay in all evening.

Can I bring someone?

Your invitation says who it is for. If you would like to bring a partner, reply and ask — we will do our best.

Are children welcome?

This one is an evening for grown-ups. We would love to see the little ones at the lunch the next day.

I have a dietary requirement.

Tell us when you RSVP and the kitchen will take care of it. Please give us at least two weeks’ notice.

Should I bring a gift?

Your company is the gift. If you would still like to bring something, a bottle for the table is more than enough.
